"Not my granny"
I found myself driving past my old grandmothers house today. My grandmother has been gone for quite awhile now. Everytime someone in my family would bring her up two things always came to mind. You know when someone mentions a persons name and your brain brings up what you remember most about that person. Some people remember their grandmothers as cheek pinchers, bad fruit cake at Christmas, dentures. Not my granny...
She loved "The Inrecible Hulk". If you grew up in the early 80's you remember this show. I can remember this being one of the very few shows the entire family sat around and watched. I guess her liking the Hulk made her really cool. Here was this 70 year old frail woman and she liked the hulk, how cool is that?
The other thing I think I will remember most about her is the night I stayed over at her house. At the moment I don't remember what the reason was for. She had this tiny house, and where she slept she had two beds. It all happened when I climbed in the other bed and got settled in to fall asleep. My grandmother comes in and makes her way to her bed. As she turned out the lights it all happened.
My granny let out the longest and loudest fart I have ever heard in my life even to this day. As I lay there in bed in the dark in complete shock I didn't know what to think. It was like she held it in all day long and it had to come out. It was so hard to believe that this 70 year old woman with a small frame could do such a thing. Grandmothers don't do this kind of stuff. She would put some of my friends to shame. And as quickly as it happened it was over, she climbed into her bed and in a few short minutes she was snoring.
So, whenever a family member brings her up in conversation I usually light up with a grin on my face. It may have changed the way I saw her and what I remember her for but I don't really think it's all a bad thing.
Some things I know...
Some things I know, usually by making huge mistakes.
